 Abstract:  Shaarey Tikvah Congregation was founded in 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio, by a group of German Jewish refugees. In its first ten years, the congregation met in four different buildings in Cleveland. In 1950, the congregation purchased the Heights Presbyterian Church in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and changed its name to Mayfield Temple. In 1970, the congregation merged with Hillcrest Synagogue B'nai Israel and moved to its building in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. The merged congregation was called Mayfield Hillcrest Synagogue, and had the Hebrew name Shaarey Tikvah - B'nai Israel. In 1986, the congregation moved to Beachwood, Ohio. It became the first conservative congregation in Beachwood and changed its name back to Shaarey Tikvah, which means "gates of hope." Shaarey Tikvah was associated with the Conservative movement in 1957. Rabbis who served the congregation were Hans Zucker, 1940-1942; Manfred Strauss, 1942-1946; Enoch H. Kronheim, 1946-1957; Jacob Shtull, 1958-1992; Gary Robuck, 1992-2003; Edward C. Bernstein, 2003-2011, David Kosak, 2011-2015, and Eddie Sukol (in an interim capacity). Rabbi Scott Roland is the current rabbi in 2022; he has served since 2016.  Abstract:  Fuchs Mizrachi School (f. 1983) is an Orthodox Jewish Day School, preschool-Grade 12, located in the former Northwood Elementary School in University Heights, Ohio. The school, originally called Bet Sefer Mizrachi of Cleveland, was renamed Fuchs Bet Sefer Mizrachi in 1994 and is currently called Fuchs Mizrachi School. After extensive remodeling, the school made the move to Northwood Elementary in 1997. The collection consists of yearbooks, including one on floppy disc; programs of events such as the annual meeting and fundraising dinners; photographs of the various stages of the school remodeling and of the graduating classes of 2002 and 2004. There are also minutes of various school committees.

 Abstract:  Samuel H. "Sam" Miller was born on June 26, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Western Reserve University in Cleveland and earned a scholarship to attend Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he received an MBA. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946. In 1947, Miller joined Forest City Material Company, the precursor to Forest City Enterprises, and was instrumental in the success of Forest City, being credited with spearheading the company's move into land development. Miller was a lifetime honorary trustee of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland and the National Conference of Christians and Jews, and an honorary trustee of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He was a past chair of Israel Bonds and the Cleveland Jewish Welfare Fund. He also served on many boards of trustees, including: Jewish National Fund, Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage, WVIZ, Urban League, Cleveland State University, John Carroll University, Baldwin Wallace University, Notre Dame College, Crime Stoppers, Police Memorial, Medical Mutual of Ohio and Catholic Diocese of Cleveland. Miller died on March 7, 2019 in Cleveland at age 97. The Samuel Miller Papers and Photographs collection consists of speeches and photographs.

 Abstract:  Abraham Stern was a Cleveland, Ohio, born philanthropist and financier. He joined Moses, Levy and Co., a fancy goods and toy store, in 1868. It became Levy and Stearn in 1872 and Stearn and Co., ca. 1905. Stearn was a director of the Society for Savings, the American Savings Bank and other institutions. He was a trustee of the Foundation of Jewish Charities and of the Jewish Orphan Asylum. He married Bertha Rohrheimer in 1876. The collection consists of a financial journal, lists of expenses, an advertisement, the marriage contract of Abraham Stearn and Betha Rohrheimer (1876) and a letter book detailing Stearn's stocks, investments, and his interest in the National Acme Manufacturing Co. Other topics include Levy and Stearn, charitable organizations and family affairs.

 Abstract:  Abba Hillel Silver was the rabbi of Temple-Tifereth Israel, Cleveland, Ohio, and an international leader of the Zionist movement. The collection consists of minutes, correspondence, memoranda, reports, bulletins, press releases, publications, mainly related to Silver's work with the American Zionist Emergency Council, 1943-1945 and the United Palestine Appeal, 1934-1945. Additionally, the collection contains correspondence with Emanuel Newmann, Cyrus Sulzberger, and Sumner Welles, from the early 1940s; Zionist correspondence and memoranda related to the Zionist Organization of America, 1917-1934; correspondence and memoranda related to unemployment insurance, 1921-1937; and general correspondence, 1916-1937. The documents contain some notes in Hebrew, presumably written by Dr. Noach Orian, an Israeli researcher. The collection includes material related to the response of American Jewish leadership to the rise of Nazism, World War II, and the Holocaust and the rescue of European Jewry, Jewish settlement in Palestine, and anti-semitism in America. Also included is a letter from David Ben Gurion to Justice L. Brandeis on the history of relations between Jews and Arabs in Palestine; a statement by Rabbi Silver concerning contention over division of funds raised for the United Palestine Appeal, the Joint Distribution Committee, and the National Refugee Service; an interview with Henry Morgenthau by Dr. Bernard Joseph regarding conditions in Palestine under the British High Commissioner; and, a report by Chaim Weizmann on a meeting with Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

 Abstract:  Born Hans Hanauer to a Jewish family in Karlsruhe, Germany, Hal Hanauer Meyers was one of the children at the French concentration camp Camp de Gurs who were rescued by Quakers in January 1941. He and his brother, Dieter, eventually were placed with Cleveland, Ohio, philanthropists David and Inez Myers. Hans stayed in Cleveland, attended Case Institute of Technology, and eventually changed his name to Hal Hanauer Myers. The collection consists of speeches, correspondence and envelopes, calendars, school notebooks, various identification cards, scrapbook pages, news clippings, photographs, and books. Of particular interest are his Nazi identification card, brief autobiographical speech given at Congregation Shaarey Tikvah, wartime correspondence with his sister and family, some of which is in German, and notebooks used in the Quaker (American Friends Service Committee) refugee camp to learn English and French.
